Police are soliciting information on the subjects who damaged 17 headstones at the Laurel Grove North Cemetery, causing thousands of dollars of damage.
Cemetery workers discovered the damage when they found the headstones, many of them well over 100 years old, pushed off their foundations, many of them broken, at the cemetery at 802 West Anderson Street.
Detectives are investigating. City of Savannah staffers are participating "because most owners of record are deceased and their heirs are not identified," a spokesman says.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Crimestoppers at (912) 234-2020 or text CRIMES (274637). Tipsters remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
