Bordeaux throws support to Foster for open Alderman at Large seat

Councilmember Tom Bordeaux, who isn't running for reelection this November, has endorsed Brian Foster for the Alderman at Large Post 2 seat.

“Having done the job for the last four years, I can tell you first-hand that no one is better-equipped to be City Councilman than Brian Foster,” said Bordeaux Tuesday night at a campaign event at the Morris Center downtown.

Foster’s supporters include Congressman Buddy Carter, former Congressmen Jack Kingston and Lindsay Thomas, State Representative Mickey Stephens, former State Senator Eric Johnson and former County Commission Chairman Pete Liakakis.

Other candidates in the unusually crowded field running for the Post 2 seat include Alicia Blakely, Travis Coles, Joe Steffen, G. Lind Taylor, and Clint Young.

  • Editor's Note: The new normal of crime downtown

While there is plenty of worry about how violent crime will affect tourism, the real concern is how it will affect the decision of residents whether or not to stay. The idea of leaving for a more safe locale seems almost inconceivable to those of us who’ve invested many years and whole lifetimes here. But Savannah’s just like anyplace else— people and businesses can decide it’s just not worth it anymore.

Maybe, just maybe, some of the outrage is gone because there is a sense that matters are at least beginning to get somewhat under control here?
