Late Wednesday night, "while on a work detail in the Visitor Center, inmate James Buchans, a non-violent offender, walked out of the back door and into a pickup truck," a Sheriff's Dept. representative says.

"That truck left the facility grounds and James Buchans was considered an escaped inmate. Upon notification, the Sheriff’s Office new CID Unit, in conjunction with our SORT Unit and US Marshall Service gathered enough information to locate Jennifer Smith, the driver of the truck, and Mr. Buchans," the rep says.

An operation went into effect to regain custody of Mr. Buchans and Jennifer Smith, "who aided in the escape." Units, with additional assistance from CNT, arrested Jennifer Smith and regained custody of Buchans just before 10 a.m. Thursday.
