Don't forget people rape the land for these crystals too! The entire place is a slap in the face to Conservationists, Environmentalists, People of Color, Historians and every last Savannian. But as was said in the article, nothing new about any of it. Savannah gets round heels every time a Big Deal Developer comes (back) to town! Isn't the first hit history has taken here and it won't be the last.

Absolutely astoundingly stupid! How incredibly short sighted and destructive! Let's get this thing under control and looked at in the proper light. If this slows developers from massive developing or builders from building massive buildings then WHO CARES?! I think we could stand the wait for another high rise that blots out our sky don't you? We are not in desperate need of another international retailer taking up our soil and air. The history under our earth is WAY more important. This town has had administration after administration that has not only allowed but encouraged the destruction of everything that brings people here. I can't believe they have all been so stupid so the only other reason would be personal profit. Once again greed and corruption have done irreparable damage. Are we going to continue to allow these "leaders" to destroy our home and desecrate our history?

I wrote to 'Buddy' Carter to voice my opposition to these threats. The first line of his response was this: "I was born in Coastal Georgia, raised my family here, and plan on living here for the rest of my life. I will not support any move that threatens our beautiful natural resources or puts our local economies in harm."
He then continues on saying: "Through meetings, round tables, and even a fact-finding mission to the Gulf of Mexico, I became confident that we could, at the very least, assess the resources available off the coast of Georgia should we ever need them." And "Harnessing America's energy potential would also have a profound impact on our national security by reducing our dependence on foreign energy sources often hostile to our national interests."
Hostile to our National interests?? How about trying to be a leader in the field of energy production instead of a follower, following a grifter all the way to the dark ages??
"Buddy" Carter has no intentions of protecting our coast or our rivers. He is apparently 100% behind the current administration's push for seismic testing and drilling. And we are all aware (or should be at this point in 'The Game') that there is zero concern in this administration for our coast and all of it's inhabitants.

Didn't even finish reading the article and already emailed all three politicians. They may not read it. They may not even care. I suspect the benefits of toeing the Trump line looks more profitable, both financially and politically. However we have to keep trying. There is no other option but to keep trying.

How can they even pretend that was a fair bidding process?? I am certainly no expert but I cannot help but smell something really fishy about this deal. Certainly we give our City Leaders credit for more intelligence than to chalk it up to not knowing when to turn down a bad offer?
Boy-o-boy this town sure does make you wonder whos at the helm and what their goal is!

Delay? If anything, I would guess most folks took one look and saw how ridiculous this venture was and figured there is no way anyone could possibly move forward on it. To our continued bewilderment, this money pit is still on the table. How can this be? I can only assume someone must see something to gain where most see disaster. I wonder who those folks are and what is it they will gain? Awful lot of contracts out there and an awful lot of land in question. The professional consultants queuing up to get paid....
JOEDYER is absolutely correct. We cannot even keep the sidewalks clean and all those lovely flower boxes are dried up and full of weeds and cigarette butts. How many times have we dug up Drayton St. for various infrastructure band-aids? It has not been that long since the last underground fire was put out! How many times this year alone have the new drainage measures failed to keep flooding in check? Crime, poorly rated schools, cutting funding for the arts, lack of manpower on every level of city maintenance...Come on, look around, is this the time or place for an arena? Is that what we want to do, pave over our true value as a city?

Great article. Well written. However, we have come to a time when all facts can be called "fake" and anyone who thinks facts matter is a hater or brainwashed by conspiracies. It is unbelievable to me that ANYONE thinks this is arena is a good idea. Which leads me to believe that there must be other reasons its planning continues. Land purchases? From whom? Connect the dots and you will find our money going to places you never thought it would. And for a town like Savannah, Georgia to forsake its marsh land yet again...to use a too often tweeted word..SAD! Mr. DeLoach, TEAR DOWN THAT CIVIC CENTER!
