‘Mestizo: Dogs of Todos Santos’ -- This exhibit of photography by Randy Akers responds to the plight of dogs in Mexico, particularly Baja. Profits from this show will go to the Animal Refuge Sanctuary in Baja. Downtown Athletic Club Gallery, One East Broughton, through February 19.



‘New Beginnings’ -- Youth art exhibit in City of Savannah’s Gallery S.P.A.C.E., 9 W. Henry St. The exhibition, which includes student works from Savannah Area schools and is part of the Black Heritage Festival, will run from Feb. 9-21. Opening reception Feb. 9 at 6:30 p.m. Free and open to the public.



‘Sculpture Gardens’ -- Recent large-scale paintings by Morgan Santander explore a wide range of iconography from the theatrical to abstraction. Santander is currently a professor of painting at SCAD. The show opens as part of the Starland First Friday, February 4 at 6 p.m. and will run until Feb. 26. Opening Reception: Friday Feb. 4, at Starland Center of Contemporary Art (StarCCA) 2428 Bull St., 6-10 p.m. Free.



‘Shadow, Impression and Reflection: John Moore, Karim Ghidinelli, and Abezash Tamerat’ -- SCAD presents this exhibition of painting and sculpture Feb. 4-27, at the Red Gallery, 201 E. Broughton St. Featured on the college’s monthly gallery hop, Friday, Feb. 4, 5-7 p.m. Free.



‘Images of Southeast India’ -- Photographs by Nigel Law at Rec Arts on Broughton Street through February. Half of sales are donated to the South Indian Fisherman's Federation and the Hindu Mission Hospital for Tsunami relief.

Evening with Richard Weisman -- SCAD presents this event with world-renowned contemporary art collector Richard Weisman on Thursday, Feb. 10, 7 p.m. at the Red Gallery, 201 E. Broughton St. Selections from Weisman’s personal collection, including pieces from Warhol’s “Athlete Series, 1977-1978,” will be on display at the Pinnacle Gallery, 320 E. Liberty St, Feb. 10-Feb. 14. Weisman will sign copies of his recent book Picasso to Pop, a chronicle of his art collection from the 1960s to 1980s, Friday, Feb. 11, 2005, 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Pinnacle Gallery.
