Friday Double Feature -- Desot O row Gallery, 2427 Desoto Ave. in Starland Design District, opens two shows on Friday. ‘Fowl Thoughts’ is John Metcalf’s first solo show in Savannah, with drawings and prints that primarily depict birds. ‘Holidays, Hope & Warmth’ -- Union Mission’s Growing Hope Artisans’ Cooperative presents cooperative member holiday card designs, hand-crocheted Afghans and text discussing the issue of providing “warmth” to people impacted by homelessness during the winter and holiday months. Comic Industry Panel -- SCAD honors comic art and sequential art storytelling as top industry professionals gather for a panel discussion Saturday, Nov. 11, 6-8 p.m., Trustees Theater, 216 E. Broughton St. Free and open to the public. Popular ink artist Scott Hanna, who has worked on all of Marvel Comics’ top characters including Spider-man, the X-Men, Wolverine, Thor, the Avengers, Daredevil and the Hulk; and Marvel Comics painter Paolo Rivera will serve as panelists. SCAD sequential art alumni panelists include current pencil artist for Archie Comics’ “Sonic the Hedgehog” Tracy Yardley (B.F.A., 2001), Dreamworks SKG storyboard artist Phil Craven (M.F.A., 2002) and Nick Dragotta (B.F.A., 1997), whose work can be seen in Marvel and DC Comics. Prior to the panel discussion, a reception will be held at Pei Ling Chan Gallery and Garden for the Arts, 324 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Thursday, Nov. 9, 6-8 p.m.
‘Ghana: A Photo Documentary’ -- The City of Savannah’s Department of Cultural Affairs exhibits photographer Carrie Brown works at Gallery S. P. A. C. E. (Savannah’s Place for Art, Culture and Education) Nov. 10 through Dec. 15. Brown is currently a documentary photographer for Cross-Cultural Solutions in Ghana, West Africa. The exhibition will include works from her journey through towns along the western coast of Ghana, as well as works from her Ghanaian students. Admission is free.
