Aug. 17: Today's events 

Here's what's going on today (Friday, Aug. 17): The legendary George Jones - one of country music's greatest-ever singers - is in the Johnny Mercer Theatre tonight. Sparkle, ParaNorman and The Expendables 2 are new in theaters today. Avenue Q is onstage at 7:30 p.m. at Bay Street Theatre, while What the Butler Saw begins its final Muse Arts Warehouse weekend with an 8 o'clock curtain. The Sparetime plays host for today's edition of Seersucker Live, the literary performance event, starting at 7:30. Catch Digital Disease (if you dare) at Taco Abajo, Those Cats at Congress Street Social Club, Liquid Ginger at Retro, and the MS3 at the Warehouse.
