Jimkata, Dead 27s @Barrelhouse South

Ithaca, New York’s Jimkata creates synth-driven pop-rock that’s making waves around the world. With hooky choruses and a little soul, Evan Friedell, Aaron Gorsch and Packy Lunn’s sound has a pensive core, '80s swagger, and a refreshingly modern edge.

For five years, the band has taken a DIY approach to their music, playing around 150 shows a year and handling their own publicity and marketing. Fans funded their latest LP, In Motion, an electro record that also shows off the band’s taste for Paul Simon and Tom Petty.

The three-piece throws a killer live show, complete with a custom lighting rig and plenty of energy.

Charleston neighbors Dead 27s, a Barrelhouse favorite, have just announced they’ll be releasing their next album with Red Parlor Records. The soulful Southern Rock band will be right at home on the homegrown label.
