First born in 1924 as a roadside barbecue shack, this restaurant has flourished into one of Savannah's most venerated, beloved and cherished dining experiences. Ask most any local about Johnny Harris and they can probably recount stories of their childhood, eating there with grandparents, sliding across the glossy booths, and enjoying a time much more simple than today. Nostalgia aside, the menu is chock-full of handmade classic Southern dishes and wood-smoked barbecue, the kind of food Savannah, and the South, was built upon. Also, the world famous Johnny Harris BBQ sauce is an often copied, but never equaled, time-tested tradition.
