Joey Allcorn’s Hillbilly Band

Retro country artist playing up the outlaw image with lazy drawls, baritone vocals, sleepy rhythms and some undertaker duds it looks like he swiped from Luke The Drifter. These guys channel the attitude of old-school punk into the format of vintage C & W, and are finally staring to draw some serious attention throughout the Southeast. The like-minded Last Train opens. John Banks

Solo set of jazz and blues-inspired material by a talented electric guitarist best known locally as a key member of the popular R & B show band The Sapphire Bullets of Pure Love. Thurs., 10 pm, Molly MacPherson’s Scottish Pub.

Kim Calhoun & Friends

Reunion of three members of the fondly-remembered Deep South Band who used to play out at the Holiday Inn on Hwy 204. They play traditional country with tight vocal harmonies. Fri. - Sat., 8 pm, The Sea Grill (Pt. Wentworth).

Mary Davis & Company

Acoustic trio featuring vocalist Davis, frontwoman for the popular Wilmington Island-based Band In The Park. Laid-back rock and pop hits. Thurs., 7 pm, Baja Cantina (The Landings).

Entropy

Terrific Athens-based funk combo that leans heavy on the sort of dance-oriented rhythms and jazz-tinged solos that James Brown and George Clinton pioneered. Sat., Locos Deli & Pub.

 

High Velocity

"Indiegrrl Showcase Tour"

Founded in 1998, Indiegrrl is a forum for independent female musicians that has become a haven for DIY singer/songwriters. They help with networking, release compilation albums of standout acts, and sponsor regional and national tours like this one (the first of its kind in Savannah). This gigs showcases acoustic artists from around the Southeast, including: Lauren Fincham, Leslie Berry, Julia Carroll, Laura McLean, and local organizer Lauren Lapointe. Mama's Mojo

Newly-minted local electric blues act featuring former members of both The Ignitors and Bluesonics. They pattern their high-energy style after that of artists like Taj Mahal and Tab Benoit (!). Fri., 9 pm, Jazz’d Tapas Bar + Sat., One Hot Mama’s (Bluffton).

Aaron Raitiere

Swampy blues/bluegrass guitarist from Kentucky inspired by John Prine, Howlin’ Wolf and Beck. He writes songs of “Love, life, booze, dogs, food, cars, people, places, booze, love, and other stuff.” Sat., 8 pm, The Sentient Bean.

 

The Serenaders

Two vocalists (one dances, the other plays guitar) that busk on River Street. Now they’re offering their unusual arrangements of popular covers in a club setting. Wed., 7 pm, Jazz’d Tapas Bar.

Randy "Hatman" Smith

Area guitarist/singer with a repertoire of dance-oriented beach, boogie and blues covers that he plays to sequenced accompaniment for a “full band sound.” Fri. - Sat., 9:30 pm, Scandals (Tybee).

Strange Change
