A clerk managed to wrestle a gun away from a man who was trying to rob the Crossroads Convenience store on Staley Avenue Thursday and fired a shot at him.
The 19-year-old suspect, who hasn't been identified, was taken into custody when he showed up at an area hospital for treatment. He walked into the store just after 2:30 p.m., armed with two gunss, and got into a struggle with the clerk.
The clerk was able to take one of the guns and used it to fire at the suspect. The suspect fled the scene, dropping his second gun, which wasn't loaded.
Police arrived and used K-9 officers to track the suspect to a nearby house. However, he had already apparently left the scene.
At 3:30 p.m., police received a call from Memorial University Medical Center about a man who had shown up at the hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg. The suspect was taken into custody and charges are imminent.
