Savannah Stopover is about to take over downtown, for the second consecutive March, and forewarned is forearmed. Or something like that. See the entire schedule at www.savannahstopover.com.
With more than 70 independent bands and artists appearing in a dozen venues over four days, things could get a little crazy. So let’s break it down into easily digestible bites:
Tickets. You can get them online at savannahstopover.com, or at Graveface Records, Civvies, The Jinx, Primary Arts Supply and Live Wire Music Hall. Yet – and this is a big one – wherever and however you buy them, you still have to exchange them for the proper wristband or badge at Stopover HQ, 15 W. York St. (that’s in the Creative Coast offices).
The exchange can only be made: March 6 (5–8 p.m.), March 7 (2–10 p.m.), March 8 and 9 (noon–8 p.m.), March 10 (Noon–4 p.m.).
You can get a general admission pass for $75, good for all shows and all four days, or upgrade to a VIP pass ($120), which adds on after–parties, extra access and assorted goodies. Individual days are as follows: $15 for March 7, $25 for March 8 and $30 for either March 9 or 10.
When your favorite venue has a Stopover show, you can only get in to the venue that day (or night) with a Stopover wristband or badge. Some clubs have non-Stopover events earlier (or later) in the day. Check each club's site for details.
Capacity. Stopover has a “first come, first served” policy. Even those with the most super–special passes, wristbands, badges or sheriff’s stars won’t be allowed in if the venue is at capacity. The moral: Get there early.
Extras: The opening night show, with Oberhofer, Dinosaur Feathers and Pond in Telfair Square, coincides with the Stopover Poster Art Competition inside the Jepson Center. There are more than 40 entries from local artists and students, and prizes will be awarded during the event.
Jack White’s Third Man Records has a “Rolling Record Store” (a big yellow truck with vinyl for sale, DJ tables and portable amps for impromptu performances). It’ll be crawling the streets on Saturday (with or without Mr. Stripe).
