Three-car wreck ejects toddler from vehicle
Early Saturday morning, Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team and Georgia State Patrol "responded to a three car wreck that sent an entire family to the hospital, including a 2-year-old who sustained serious injuries after he and another child were ejected," police say.
The wreck happened just after 1:30 a.m., at Martin Luther King Boulevard and Gwinnett Street. Fredrick Cobbs, 44, the driver of a Chrysler 300, failed to stop at a red light.
"Cobbs was traveling south on MLK when he struck 25-year-old, Ericka Griffin’s, Nissan Altima as she traveled east on Gwinnett Street. The Nissan spun on impact causing at least two boys, ages five and two, to be ejected from the vehicle. Cobbs’ Chrysler then struck a Saturn sedan operated by Drema Garner, 52, who stopped in MLK’s left northbound turning lane," police say.
The 2-year-old’s injuries were serious, but non-life threatening. The 5-year-old along with Griffin’s two other passengers, including an 8-year-old, were transported by ambulance to Memorial University Medical Center for care of non-life threatening injuries. Garner and her passenger reported no injuries.
Prior to MAIT’s arrival, GSP arrested Cobbs for driving under the influence of alcohol.
