FEMA Disaster Recovery Center set to open on Tybee

Posted By on Fri, Sep 22, 2017 at 4:01 PM

Beginning Saturday, Sept. 23, the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) on Tybee Island will be open to assist Hurricane Irma survivors. The center is open daily and staffed by representatives of the State of Georgia, FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Hours of operation are:
Mon-Fri: 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Saturday: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Sunday: 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The location is at the Tybee Island YMCA Gym, 202 5th St. on Tybee Island.

"Survivors can talk with disaster recovery center personnel about their challenges recovering from hurricane damage, get started on applying for SBA low-interest disaster loans, receive helpful recovery information and discuss other issues of concern. However, it is not necessary to visit a DRC to receive FEMA assistance," a FEMA spokesperson says.

"Survivors are encouraged to register with FEMA before visiting a disaster recovery center if possible. Homeowners, renters and business owners in Chatham County who sustained damage or losses as a result of Hurricane Irma are eligible to register."

The quickest way to apply for federal assistance is online at or through the FEMA mobile app.

Survivors may also apply by phone at 800-621-3362 (voice, 711 or VRS) or 800-462-7585 (TTY). The toll-free numbers are open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. ET, seven days a week.

Survivors can locate the nearest disaster recovery center by using the FEMA mobile app or by visiting
