Lecture: Hard Choices for Brazil...Again

Not only is Brazil the epicenter of the Zika virus, but it is being rocked by a debilitating political and economic crisis. Brazil’s 2016 GDP is expected to contract for the second consecutive year, unemployment is rising, Petrobus’ (semi-public energy corporation & the largest company in the Southern Hemisphere) corruption scandal, and President Dilma Rousseff may be impeached. Fortunately, democratic institutions have continued to function and authorities in charge of the Petrobas investigations have gained popular support by reaffirming the rule of law in a society struggling to overcome social inequality. Paul Sotero, a native of Sao Paolo, discusses these changes.
