AH, Norway: land of sparkling fjords, impish trolls, delectable seafood, and dudes in corpse paint playing blistering black metal. And does it get much heavier than a band that derived its name from the year the Black Death reached Norway? Nei.

Enter 1349, who will be taking over The Jinx on Thursday on their American winter tour. The band’s latest, 2014’s Massive Cauldron of Chaos, is, as the band calls it, “aural hellfire” in black metal’s tradition—machine-gun drums, vocals that rip like meat from the bone, some Slayer-adoring guitar work. But, in light of how seriously black metal takes itself, there’s certainly something to be said for demigods of the genre to cover Pink Floyd and breathe fire onstage.

U.S. death shredders Origin and Minneapolis/Chicago’s Wolvhammer join. The Jinx advises getting to the venue early, as it will very likely sell out.
