2013 Preservation Festival Lecture: Urban Village Narratives

Andrée Iffrig, award-winning graduate architect, community builder, storyteller and professional writer, will speak on the continuous effort to preserve Savannah’s “sense of place” through ongoing community activism. Using Inglewood in Calgary, Alberta, Canada as a case study, Andrée will focus on Inglewood’s “David vs. Goliath” struggle with the City, the residents' heroic efforts to inventory and keep historic buildings in use and good repair, and a second generation of community activism which has resulted in a sustainable urban plan for the area, (the Inglewood Design Initiative or IDI).
