Mountainfilm on Tour hosting Free Family Movie Night at Ships of the Sea Museum and Garden

MountainFilm on Tour Savannah’s second annual Free Family Movie Night will take place on Saturday, August 6 at Ships of the Sea Museum and Garden.

Leslie Carey, the director of Mountainfilm on Tour Savannah said the event is the perfect opportunity to bring the community together for an evening of fun movies.

“We canceled our January festival and we were really looking forward to trying to find a way to be in person with the community again, outside,” said Carey.

The free family movie night is part of Mountainfilm on Tour Savannah’s “Movies that Matter’’ program, which receives funding from the City of Savannah.

As part of the program Mountainfilm on Tour Savannah screens films for public school students.

The program allows students to view films from Mountainfilm on Tour both virtually and in-person, with screenings taking place in the Trustees Theatre and Lucas Theatre for the Arts.

“Last year we screened for 11,000 public school students in Savannah Chatham County. So as part of that program, we wanted to develop additional programming to just broaden our outreach in the community” said Carey.

The free event kicks off at 5 p.m. with a social hour where guests can enjoy concessions in the outdoor gardens. Food trucks from The Naked Dog and Krazian will be present along with Leopold’s ice cream and free popcorn.

Screenings begin at 6:00 p.m. and consist of films from the Mountainfilm Festival in Telluride, Colorado. All short films that will be screened explore themes connected to Mountainfilm’s mission of using the power of film, art and ideas to inspire audiences to create a better world.

Mountainfilm on Tour Savannah is a non-profit organization, now in its thirteenth year of bringing award-winning films and documentaries to Savannah.
