Police were dispatched to Memorial University Medical Center just after 6:30 p.m. July 17, after Larry Briggs showed up at the emergency room suffering from a gunshot wound.
According to Savannah Chatham Metro PD, a group of juveniles in the area of 38th and Ash Streets were fighting, when Briggs attempted to intervene. Police said an older male, who was not involved in the altercation, allegedly approached and shot Briggs.
Deral Anthony Crawford, 22, was arrested the next day and charged with aggravated assault. He was transported to the Chatham County Detention Center.
• Anton Myers, 41, received serious injuries July 21 when he lost control of his motorcycle at 7:21 a.m., and struck a guy wire to a utility pole.
Myers was admitted to Memorial University Medical Center after the incident near McAlpin Square shopping center. Savannah–Chatham Metropolitan Police Islands Precinct officers found the blue 2000 Kawasaki ZX 600 motorcycle after it had left the shopping center parking lot and struck the guy wire on the east side of Wallin Street.
The SCMPD Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is continuing to investigate.
• Police continue to investigate a July 13 incident in which a 19–year–old Savannah woman was struck by a car; she and the driver who hit her each were transported to Memorial University Medical Center. Kelsea Tompkins was walking with two other people across Derenne Avenue at Waters Avenue about 3:45 a.m. when she was struck by a car being driven west on Derenne. She was hospitalized for treatment of serious but non–life threatening injuries.
The accident was caught on video by cameras at the intersections. Two vehicles stopped but did not leave their information. If you witnessed the accident call the Major Accident Investigation team at (912) 525–2421.
• Two men were admitted to Memorial University Medical Center Sunday morning, July 22, after their minivan overturned on the Truman Parkway.
Justo Chavez Rodriquez, 27, and Santos Morales Sosa were transported with serious injuries after the one-vehilce crash about 4:45 a.m.
The Mazda MPV driven by Rodriquez was traveling north near the Whitfield Avenue entrance ramp when it ran into the median and began to overturn, coming to rest in the right southbound lane. Both men were ejected.
• James W. Dorsey, 33, of Pooler was killed July 22 when his black 2004 Yamaha motorcycle crash into the side of a tractor-trailer at a high rate of speed.
The accident occured at US 80 and Dean Forest Road at 1:30 a.m.
Dorsey carried no identification and the motorcycle registration had not been completed. The motorcyclewas traveling west on US 80 when it failed to stop for a traffic light and crashed into the side of a 2006 Volvo tractor driven by Aaron Alton Graham of Ellanwood, Ga. Graham was not injured. No helmet was found in the wreckage.
Garden City Police had seen the accelerating motorcycle and had turned to initiate a traffic stop seconds before the crash.
