Yup, the Mayor is a member of City Council, in case you didn’t know. And while the Mayor of Savannah has relatively little power compared to, say, the Mayor of Charleston, the power of the gavel and the bully pulpit is pretty huge.
Mayor DeLoach faces increasing blowback for his support of the deeply unpopular Fire Fee, but no one can accuse him of being two-faced. DeLoach runs City Council meetings with a mixture of efficiency, speech, and more often than not a willingness to defend his positions in a straightforward manner.
