Re: “Hunting, guns, and the American nightmare

" However, there is a thriving industry of lobbyists led by the NRA and other groups focused nearly exclusively on their sacrosanct vision of the Second Amendment that work to defeat any rational curb on the easy availability of firearms to any buyer that clears the minimal standards they have fought relentlessly to impose on the nation. " I remember in the 60s when we could order firearms through the mail from Sears & Roebuck, no questions asked. The fact is that firearm possession and purchasing has been made progressively less easy for the last 75 years. "Just last week Wayne Lapiere, the President of the NRA, attacked the notion that the majority of weapons destabilizing Mexican society had origins in the U.S." Because there is a huge difference between "90% of the firearms the BATFE was able to trace" and "90% of the illegal firearms in Mexico". "Who will come after our guns?" Ask the folks in DC, NYC and California where it has happened in the past. "The gun lobby has fomented fear among their most ardent supporters that the Obama administration was planning to deploy a wide variety of bans on gun ownership from automatic weapons, semi-automatic assault rifles, " There is no such thing as a semi-auto assault rifle. Assault rifles, unlike assault weapons, are full-auto. The 1994 AWB had nothing to do with full-auto firearms, assault rifles or any other type of machine gun. It only affect semi-autos. However, Obama's campaign website, the DNC's website, and the Obama Whitehouse website all said that they want to bring back the ill-conceived and poorly written '94 AWB.
