It's telling that this incident and the river street assault last year get attention for reasons involving tourism but both involved alcohol were not occurring in situations using common sense. Then take today, Thursday February 5. My wife came home from walking our dog at 8 a.m. and was followed and verbally threatened by a grown male. I went out after she ran away from him and ended up home a mess. I went out myself to track him down speaking to two different officers - Holtz and the middle aged white lady that has worked downtown for years - and told them the situation. I continued walking and found the guy myself and flagged a third officer at a light at Montgomery and Broughton and explained the situation. He had no prior briefing from dispatch. That was a police failure. Finally all three officers met up and arrested the guy who was clearly, quite literally, out of his mind. Later the same day, we were walking our dog around 630 p.m. And while crossing Broughton at Montgomery witnessed a man walking out of Marc Jacobs shrugging off their female employee while walking out with a couple of hand bags. So in one 10 hour period, within 20 yards of our home, we had a verbal assault with the threat of rape while stalking and witnessed theft from a business. Someone should cover that. Not drunk tourons who make poor decisions. I have lived here about 15 years and came from Detroit. The amount of and severity of the crime is not that comparable but the lack of community and police cooperation to help control the BS in this city is shameful.
