In the 90s the Savannah Chamber, & the Board of Ed formed the Savannah Compact whereby local employers agreed to hire students who graduated. Big joke! Employers would sign pledge, then wouldn't even interview qualified student referred to them.. Then they put out the word out that kids didn't want to work. If Mr. DeLoach thinks Savannah employers will participate in a work-study program he's smoking something.
This is insanity. If Congress was doing its job it would instruct the Corps to identify the 2-3 ports that are most feasible for deepening and fund them. But 17? Second, the financial statements posted by GPA provide no detail of revenue and expenditures for current operations, let alone any increases anticipated by the larger ships. If this plan is so profitable why doesn't the port authority pay for it out of revenues form shipping instead of gouging the tax payers. All they disclose in their annual report is economic impact - not revenues.
