It's just going to end up being hotel space, which is all the city government is interested in. It's a terrible venue, but I fear what will be there next in the further transformation of Historic Savannah into a theme park. Maybe they can build a "haunted mansion" for all the morons and their ghost tours.
I agree with your article 100%. I would add though that there needs to be enforcement on a police level of the infractions from cyclists. I'm a sometime cyclist in Downtown Savannah, also a sometime motorist and scooterist even. The degree of "risky behavior" of a motorist vs cyclist is very different. A motorist driving the wrong way down a street, on a sidewalk, weaving in and out of lanes, through a square or what have you would be me stopped and and the very least ticketed by law enforcement. Appropriately so, because those are dangerous behaviors. However, all of those very same behaviors are rather commonplace in downtown Savannah with no repercussions whatsoever. Admittedly, I have seen that there have been stops of cyclists for having no lights at night, yet I still see that very commonly.
