Alternative last-minute holiday gifts for the live event enthusiast

Are you still looking for some last-minute holiday gifts? If so, then here are some alternative options that you will not have to stand in line for or wait for shipping. Many concerts and other shows are lined up to come to Savannah in 2022 and one of these might just be the perfect alternative holiday gift. 

From Plant Riverside District to the Savannah Civic Center and the soon to be newly open Enmarket Arena there will be plenty of shows to choose from. You may have a friend, spouse, relative or even yourself that you may want to treat with the gift of a ticket to one of these upcoming shows.

Even before the year ends there are some fun acts coming to town. Starting with the Celebration Festival Sweat Hotel on Thurs., December 30 at the Savannah Civic Center in the MLK Arena. Lovers of R&B will get to enjoy the sounds of Keith Sweat, 112, Stokley of Mint Condition and The City.

On Fri., December 31, New Year’s Eve acclaimed rock band from Atlanta Blackberry Smoke will be bringing their You Hear Georgia tour to the Johnny Mercer Theatre in the Savannah Civic Center.

Also, on December 31 over at Plant Riverside District, District Live powered by Live Nation is bringing Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe. Denson is a singer and the The Rolling Stones’ touring saxophonist. Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe is an acclaimed seven-piece band and their New Year’s Eve show will offer a blend of rock, funk, blues, soul, and gospel sounds.

Now let’s ring in the new year and hop over into 2022. If you enjoy ballet and fairytales then this ballet performance is for you. The State Ballet Theatre of Ukraine presents Cinderalla on January 8 at the Johnny Mercer Theatre.  The State Ballet Theatre of Ukraine returns to the United States for this two-act performance set to Sergei Prokofiev’s music with Vladimir Vasiliev’s choreography.

The Enmarket Arena is still on schedule to open in 2022 in the Canal District. The first show is scheduled for Friday, January 14 with country music artist Riley Green’s We Out Here tour.

Also, on January 14 at the Johnny Mercer Theatre in the Savannah Civic Center will be Johnny Mathis on his The Voice of Romance tour. The legendary singer is celebrating his 66th year as an in the music industry. 

There is also something for Hockey fans. The Enmarket Savannah Hockey Classic will be January 14-15 in the MLK Arena in the Civic Center. The Savannah Hockey Classic is a collegiate hockey tournament that features four of the South’s hockey programs: University of Georgia, University of Florida, Georgia Tech and Florida State. 

Then in February at the Enmarket Arena is a festive month with some heavy hitting concerts that are sure to make for a wonderful gift. 

Hip-Hop and R&B fans can enjoy array of hit making artist at the For the Love of Music 2-day mega fest on February 11-12. On the 11th is the For the Love of Hip-Hop Mega Concert featuring Twista, Ying Yang Twins, Young Dro and more. On February 12 is the For the Love of R&B Mega Concert featuring Cherrelle, Glen Jones, Ruff Endz and more.

Also, in February the GRAMMY Award winning hit rock band the Eagles Hotel California tour is coming on the 19th at Enmarket Arena Grand Opening Celebration. Don Henley, Joe Walsh, and Timothy B. Schmit, with Deacon Frey and Vince Gill will be live in concert to play their biggest hits, featuring ‘Hotel California,’ played from beginning to end, accompanied by an orchestra and choir, along with an additional set of the band’s greatest hits.

The musical CATS will be in Savannah on Tues., February 15 at the Johnny Mercer Theatre. This upcoming show will feature new sound design, direction, and choreography for a new generation.

Georgia native and seven-time GRAMMY Award winner Gladys Knight is coming to Savannah on February 17 at the Johnny Mercer Theatre. A humanitarian and philanthropist Knight has enjoyed #1 hits in Pop, Gospel, R&B and Adult Contemporary, and has triumphed in film, television, and live performance, including a recent live Verzuz with Pattie LaBelle.

On Sunday, March 13 the excitement and mayhem of ‘WWE Road to Wrestlemania’ takes over the Enmarket Arena. ‘Come on down!’ on March 24 for The Price is Right Live at the Johnny Mercer Theatre. The Price is Right Live! previously scheduled for Friday, October 22, 2021 but was rescheduled for the 24. 

On Thurs., March 31st over at District Live two of the greatest bands of all time face off in a high-energy, adrenaline-driving musical showdown Beatles vs Stones – A Musical Showdown. The FabFour, represented by tribute band Abbey Road, will perform a list of hits against premier Rolling Stones tribute band Satisfaction.

In April at the Enmarket Arena the veteran R&B group New Edition headlines an iconic lineup with the legendary Charlie Wilson, along with special guest, Jodeci, the bad boys of R&B for The Culture Tour on the 8th. On Tues., April 12 The Harlem Globetrotters Spread Game Tour stops by the Arena.

On Thursday, October 13 Four-time GRAMMY Award winner Keith Urban The Speed of Now World Tour with special guest 3x GRAMMY nominee Ingrid Andress comes to the Enmarket Arena. 

“Every night is the first time we’ve played these songs for that audience, in that moment,” said Urban about the show. “It’s why every show is different – spontaneous and unpredictable – even for us!” 

For generations, Disney’s Princesses have enchanted audiences and here’s a show kids and adults can enjoy. Disney Princess - The Concert is coming to the Johnny Mercer Theatre on November 15. An all-star quartet of Broadway and animated film icons celebrate all the Disney Princesses in an evening of story, animation, and song, alongside their magical Music Director and enchanting Prince.

Those events are just some of many happening next year at different venues across the city and more will be added as more groups start touring again. 

If you do purchase tickets for someone, make sure they keep updated with the latest information on the venues website as dates and things are open to change depending on covid and other factors.
