‘By Hand -- African American Advertising Art in Savannah’ -- This exhibition at the King Tisdell Cottage features images made by local African American sign painters photographed over a 10-year period by Tom Kohler and his friends Susan Earl and Michelle Stewart. Opening reception is Sunday, Sept. 26 at 3 p.m. at the King-Tisdell Cottage Foundation’s headquarters, 502 E. Harris St.



‘Helen Slater as Supergirl’ -- SCAD presents this exhibition by SCAD professor of painting Craig Drennen, whose drawing, painting and audio work use the theme of Supergirl, the 1984 film directed by Jeannot Szwarc, and its star Helen Slater to address the relationship between film and the traditional fine arts.

Sept. 29-Oct. 26, at Pinnacle Gallery, 320 E. Liberty St. A closing reception will be held as part of the Savannah Film Festival, Tuesday, Oct. 26, 9-11 p.m. Free.

Sandy Branam -- This local artist exhibits her paintings & sculptures at Starfish Cafe (formerly Bread & Butter), 719 E. Broad, now through October.



'Sixteen' -- Oil paintings and tapestries by Hong Tran, reflecting the struggle to survive the brutal regime of Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia.

‘Multi-dimensional Landscapes’ -- Black & white photos by Joe Dyer now on display through Nov. 13 at Venus de Milo, 38 MLK Jr. Blvd. Reception is Sept. 30 from 7-10 p.m.



‘From Apache to Zuni’ -- The Telfair Museum of Art hosts this exhibit of Native American objects from the Lowe Museum from Sept. 25-Jan. 2. Several events and lectures dealing with the exhibit will be held throughout October.



Friedman’s artists of the month -- Friedman’s Fine Art featues the Lowcountry-inspired works of Allen Fireall and Doug Grier for the month of September. 28 W. State St., hours Mon-Fri. 9-5:30, Sat. 10-5:00.

‘‘Wet SPACE’ -- Art Camp students recently studied the fundamentals of 2 and 3-D design. Students worked on individual and group projects with a focus on sea life. Their work will be on display through early October at Gallery S.P.A.C.E., 9 E. Henry St.



‘Improvisations in Jazz’ -- Prints of local and national jazz musicians on display Sept. 13-30 at Suzabelle’s, 102 E. Broad.



‘Tool Set: Post/American Reality’ -- SCAD presents this exhibit Sept. 26-Oct. 30, at Orleans Hall Gallery, 201 Barnard St. Free and open to the public. “Tool Set” is a moving image exhibition exploring American reality through video and audio postproduction software.
