THE local movie group CinemaSavannah will parter with ShortsTV, the exclusive presenter of Oscar® Nominated Short Films theatrical releases, to air streaming short films beginning today.
"Each feature-length compilation of the world’s best short films will be released to audiences every two weeks on Vimeo OTT, starting June 26, where each theater will have their own page to distribute locally and the releases will be available to rent on demand for three days," a ShortsTV spokesperson says.
The streams cost $7.99 per three-day rental period. The CinemaSavannah virtual cinema page for the initiative is here.
On June 26, the initiative opens with ONE SMALL STEP, a collection of uplifting and family-friendly animated short films, featuring the Academy Award® winning Bear Story and Academy Award® nominees One Small Step, Gopher Broke and Borrowed Time.
"We are one of only 60 virtual theaters offering this exclusive screening," says CinemaSavannah director Tomasz Warchol. "The platform is Vimeo, securely encrypted, with a closed-caption option. It has no geographical restriction so you can watch it anywhere in the world."
50% of the streaming sales will go to CinemaSavannah, which usually screens its select films in person at the Savannah Cultural Arts Center. Since that won't be an option again for quite awhile, this is a great way to support the organization until in person indoor events can be allowed again.
Warchol says that "optimistically," it probably won't be until early 2021 for such screenings to be able to be regularly put on.
