PRINCESS GOES to the Butterfly Museum @ DISTRICT LIVE

Typically shortened to Princess Goes, here’s a supergroup of actor/musicians who met at the auditions for “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” on Broadway. See the film if you haven’t, but it won’t include the star power of Michael C. Hall from Dexter and Six Feet Under. He is, however, a member of Princess Goes. Hall is joined by Blondie keyboard player Matt Katz-Bohen and drummer for the criminally underappreciated Morningwood, Peter Yanowitz. If you’re not the star-effer type, check out their cover of Bowie’s “Heroes” and see why you might want to check them out.

SUN MAY 14 | 8 PM

LAUREN KNIGHT @ THE WORMHOLE

You can’t be sure what you’ll get, but you can be sure it’ll make you laugh. The self-proclaimed “local hot mom” can tell sweet and funny stories about raising her two sons that have a killer punchline, often making light of their white and black baby daddies. Then she goes raw as hell and super deep on adults-only jokes regarding how things like those lovely kids of hers show up in the first place. She grew up in Spain and was raised all around the world, lending a perspective to taboo subjects you may not have heard before. Between the “nice” stuff and the hardcore no Fs to give material, there’s definitely something for everyone.

GIRLFRIEND FROM HELL @ LODGE OF SORROWS

The first Three Link Flea Market — and hopefully not the last — presents bands, vintage clothing and home goods from 15+ vendors, mobile barista, food truck(s) and three bands to soundtrack your shopping spree. GFH met a little over a year ago, jammed for six months, and have been playing out for six more. In short order, they’ve cemented themselves in the scene by doing that riot grrrl punk rock right, and audiences notice. Experimental noise rockers Klept and tranicore cowpunksters Sissy Fists share the stage. Shopping is free, bands inside for a measly $5. Events like this, supporting art, music, and food by people who mean it because they live it are but one reason the entire Graveface/Lodge of Sorrows conglomerate is deserving of enthusiastic support.

SAT MAY 13 | 10 AM – 4 PM

STREET CLOTHES + JOHNNY COUCH + DISCO DRAG SHOW @ SERVICE BREWING CO.

Kicking around Savannah for nearly a decade, the dance rock outfit known for wild get-down  shows endures. That is despite personnel churn and the recent shutdown that spurred a slew of new bands to form, and bands like Street Clothes to regroup and recommit. If you like LCD Soundsytem and Arcade Fire, this is a band for you. Sharing the bill is Johnny Couch, former punk drummer in obscure NYHC bands whose reinvention as a solo performer was recognized as legit in reviews of his debut EP “Animal Instinct.” He leans into late New Wave and power pop, and the influence of his favorite bands The Ramones, Cheap Trick and Nick Lowe are apparent in the best of ways. Tack on a Disco Drag Show to this killer double-bill, and death or death-adjacent is the only excuse to miss it.

SAT MAY 20 | 8:30 PM

BABY DRILL @ ELAN SAVANNAH

Southside Chicago rapper Chief Keef is generally credited with bringing drill rap to the mainstream, and he has millions of Interscope Record’s dollars to prove his legitimacy as an earner. Far more violent than the average rap song’s level of misogyny and mayhem,  the drill genre is harder, grittier, and the sound is heavily influenced by Southern style 808 beats and hard synths. The culture of drill is hypermasculine and all about the no-snitch criminal lifestyle.  Baby Drill (pictured above with prerequisite stacks) came up outside of Atlanta and hit gold with more than three million views of his YouTube video “32 Freestyle.” Sometimes known as Mr. Slimey, Baby Drill rolls through town with a slew of drama in tow. Facing multiple felony counts, including taking out a competitor, he may be the realest drill rapper out there. The outcome of the case matters since Atlanta is a huge incubator for hip hop talent and it’s hit a dry spell. Baby Drill getting convicted and sentenced to hard time would be a major step backward.
