This is a very well-written plea for sanity in the test-and-punish movement currently being promoted by Deal and Co. in the state of GA. As you so clearly explained, it would be different if all of this so-called "evaluation" was being used to help our children, or, if the tests themselves were even valid or reliable. It isn't and they aren't. This over-focus on testing is only a method of making public schools seem weak and thus, ripe for takeover by private charter companies. Parents, please do your research. Most charter schools; despite their special rules, extra activities, or themes; perform no better, and in some cases much worse than public schools. Just like the tests scores that sound important - until you study them, the idea of charters sounds really good but, in essence, only drains money from public schools and puts it in the hands of corporations and private investors.
I wonder what deal, Deal is getting from pushing them through his so-called Opportunity School District legislation.
