Eric Bailey to host Summer Comedy Jams Weekend in Statesboro/Tybee

Eric Bailey

Savannah-based comedian Eric Bailey will host Summer Comedy Jams Weekend at two theaters this month. The show is a mix of stand-up comedy and interactive live music.

The first show of the weekend will take place in Statesboro at Emma Kelly Theater at Averitt Center for the Arts on Saturday, Aug. 19 at 8 p.m. The following day, Sunday, Aug. 20,  Tybee Post Theater will host the show at 7 p.m.

Bailey will perform alongside comics Terrance Miller and Saseddrick, and live music will be played by Jacob Evans and Jake Menendez.

Bailey broke into the Savannah comedy scene in 2020 after co-hosting and writing for Savannah’s Spitfire Poetry Group for two years. He has since performed all over Georgia, Florida and South Carolina.

Bailey has spent the past year cultivating a culture for comedy in Downtown Savannah with weekly shows at Eclipse and Pour Larry’s. He says his goal is to introduce more people to the art form and create a demand for shows at more venues across the Greater Savannah Area.

“I’ve run into a lot of people here who have never been to a comedy show, and that’s just crazy to me,” Bailey said. “We have comedy spots- The Wormhole has comedy shows, Club One has comedy shows, there’s Enmarket Arena for people like Adam Sandler- but a lot of bigger cities have true comedy clubs like The Laugh Factory, The Comedy Store, The Comedy Cellar. There’s nothing like that here, and it’s something that I think the City needs.”

Bailey says he believes laughter is the best medicine and hopes to bring people from all walks of life and all backgrounds out to his shows. He explained that Savannah’s robust live music scene gives him hope that comedy can thrive in the Hostess City.

“The culture around stand-up comedy is similar to music I think,” he said. “Everyone loves to laugh. It’s something universal.”
