Lecture: Tena Clark — The Flannery O’Connor Childhood Home will welcome famed music producer, songwriter and author Tena Clark, who will speak about Southern Discomfort, her memoir about growing up in the South. flannery o’connor childhood home peacock party at the beach institute: — Celebrate 30 years since the purchase of the O’Connor Home at this fundraiser Friday, October 11, 6 p.m., at the Beach Institute, 502 E. Harris Street. This lively annual event will feature libations, heavy hors d’oeuvres, live music, a silent auction and more. Costumes inspired by Flannery O’Connor characters, settings or the author’s life are encouraged but optional. All Peacock Party proceeds benefit programming and outreach initiatives at the Flannery O’Connor Childhood Home in Savannah.

Lecture: Patriotic Pestilence: The Politics of Identity in American Yellow Fever Narratives — Dr. Jessica Wells, an independent scholar from Florida, will explore the antebellum antecedents to the cultural construction of yellow fever. An Evening with Rick Atkinson — The Georgia Historical Society is hosting Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Rick Atkinson in a conversation with Stan Deaton, the Dr. Elaine B. Andrews Distinguished Historian at the Georgia Historical Society.
