Jasper Green Ceremony

A wreath-laying ceremony honoring Irish-Americans' contributions to the military, sponsored by the St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee, in memory of Sgt. William Jasper, a hero in the American Revolutionary War whose parents were from Ireland. He was killed at the Siege of Savannah in October 1779 while attempting to rescue the colors of his regiment. The Jasper Greens was a Savannah-based regiment formed in the 1840s that represented Georgia during the Spanish American War, and the U.S. Civil War. Held at the foot of the William Jasper Monument in Madison Squre.
