I'm not in Chatham county, but totally agree with Byrne. I have a son in Pre-K who has come home several times with projects outside of his physical capabilities that had to be done. He doesn't want to do them, and I honestly didn't understand why we were doing something that I'm not sure I could have done in the first grade. I seriously worry what it will be like each year going forward. I was in parochial schools growing up, and I remember the agony of hours upon hours of homework each night. In middle school, my parents and I had to sign a contract agreeing to a minimum of 1 hour of homework per night per class, and even 2 hours for my language arts. I still managed to squeeze in extracurricular activities but got used to sleep deprivation at an early age. I wish I were in a position to home school, but I'm just not. I just have to wait and see what the coming years bring. Kudos for Byrne for stepping up for what so many parents (at least the ones I know) have been saying for years.
Wonderfully written. Matt has so much talent, and a lot to offer Savannah. We just need the right people to get their heads out of the shadows of their rear ends.
