Loop It Up Savannah is a local nonprofit that brings creative programming to more than 10,000 children throughout Chatham County. Founded in 2008, the organization started as a children’s knitting and crochet class at the West Broad YMCA. Loop It Up Savannah has since grown to include a wide range of youth arts and educational enrichment activities that are delivered through partnerships with public schools, community centers, museums and other nonprofits. Loop It Up Savannah is gearing up to host a special fundraising event that’s making its return after a three-year COVID hiatus.
Soup It Up for Loop It Up is the culminating fundraising event for the nonprofit’s annual campaign. And it’s back for the first time since 2020.
“We are so excited for the return of our beloved Soup It Up event this year,” said Loop It Up Savannah founder and executive director Molly Lieberman. “Soup It Up is a great time to catch up with our friends and to celebrate and lift up the important work that Loop It Up does throughout our community.”
Soup It Up attendees can enjoy food from various local restaurants — including copious amounts of soup — and a cash bar as well as coveted raffle prizes. DJ Jose Ray will be spinning records to keep the crowd going.
Since the last Soup It Up fundraiser, Loop It Up has grown significantly, expanding its programs in literacy, mindfulness and school gardening. The nonprofit has also increased its annual budget by more than 150 percent.
“Since our last pre-COVID Soup It Up event in 2020, Loop It Up has grown beyond what we had ever dreamed. Throughout COVID, we devoted much of our time to developing Loop It Up’s original curriculum, which has paved the way for successful program expansion. We now offer programming at over 30 locations, most of which occur on a weekly basis,” Lieberman explained.
She added that Loop It Up is proud to have strong collaborations with the Savannah Chatham County Public School System as well as several local nonprofits including West Broad Street YMCA, the Wesley Community Centers, YMCA of Coastal Georgia and Greenbriar Children’s Centers, all of which are host sites to weekly Loop It Up programming.
“We are grateful for the collaborative work that we do with all of our partners throughout the Savannah area and beyond. . . We are committed to building programs that become part of the fabric of what happens in each school and center that we work with,” she continued.
During the event, Loop It Up will take time to thank partners and recognize individuals whose support has assisted the organization in achieving its mission.
“This year, we are excited to honor three special people who have worked, dreamed and brought wonderful things to life with us over the past few years. These individuals have helped us to become the organization that we now get to be for many years to come,” Lieberman expressed.
Soup It Up will take place on Saturday, March 11 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the American Legion Ballroom, which is located at 1108 Bull St. For more information, tickets, and sponsorships, visit loopitupsavannah.com/.
