Dan Carrigan

This unusual guitarist/songwriter traded in his secure adult life for an itinerant one of busking a few years back and since that day has traveled this land living in either a compact car, an Airstream, or a sailboat – accompanied by his trusty dog Spot (I’m not making this up). He sells homemade CDs, and for a while had a backing band from Asheville. Now he’s back on his own. If you dig oddball, cerebral pop like They Might Be Giants, Alex Chilton or Ween, give him a try. The Dynamic Duo

Entropy

Excellent Georgia jam group influenced by James Brown and Parliament, as well as hip-hop and worldbeat music. They were named "Best R&B/Soul/Funk Band" in Athens by Flagpole Magazine a while back. Fri., Locos Deli & Pub.

Erickson/Strong

Buoyant groove music with a tropical feel (featuring former members of Souled Out). Thurs., 6:30 pm, Tubby’s (River St.)

Exactus

Charleston-based modern rock band with a tongue-in-cheek sense of humor and a strong following with the fraternity set. Fri. - Sat., O’Connell’s Irish Pub.

Jacey Falk & His Revue

Savannah native (with a bit of a NYC pedigree) singing , scatting, and otherwise vamping up a wide variety of jazz standards and ribald originals – backed by a rotating cast of regional ringers. Fri. - Sat., Mercury Lounge.

Trae Gurley's Sinatra

Local thespian who’s found a niche putting his own live spin on Frank’s classics from his big band period, accompanied by pre-recorded instrumental tracks. Tues., Fusion/The Monkey Bar.

Hammers of Misfortune

This Frisco metal outfit was originally called Unholy Cadaver, so hey, that should either make you chuckle or get in line. They’re known for extremely dark and violent music that draws on Scandinavian black metal as well as goth, prog rand even Celtic rock. Some critics have raved on their vaguely theatrical stage show and male-female vocal setup that recalls the legendary duo Swans. Thurs., The Jinx.

The Billy Hoffman Quartet

Tight and impressive local jazz unit led by the hard-swinging trap drummer Hoffman. Sat., 9 pm, Jazz’d Tapas Bar.

The Spec Hosti Band

Popular local bluegrass quartet (both traditional and jam-influenced “Hellgrass”) featuring mandolinist Hosti, that is sometimes billed as The Jimmy Wolling Band in deference to their standout banjo player. Wed., 8 pm, The Oyster Bar (Wilmington Island).

Maurice & Doubleday

Long-running regional party band offering well-played, danceable covers in a variety of genres. Sat., 7 pm, Go Fish.

McFly

High-concept ‘80s rock cover band that dresses the part in skinny ties and checkerboard outfits. This popular touring act features a female guitarist (Nikki Lixx) who shreds like Eddie Van Halen. Sun., 7 pm, Tybee Island Pier Pavillion.

Moonshine Still

Formed in ‘96, this Macon group has been touring non-stop since 2000. They’ve dubbed their organic mixture of funk, metal and soul “Frankenrock,” and it’s helped them to become one of the most popular jam bands around.Thurs., Locos Deli & Pub.

My Hotel Year

Heavy Orlando modern rock band that’s known for larger-than-life stage presence and catchy, singalong tunes. ALL AGES. Tues., 8 pm, Teaser’s Café.

Harry O’Donoghue

Traditional Celtic music from a guitarist/singer best known as the host of Public Radio’s “The Green Island.” Mon. - Tues., Kevin Barry’s.

The Paper Champions

Atlanta-based indie-rock band that’s received high marks from critics and was featured on one of the prestigious Deep Elm Emo Diaries comps. Sat., The Jinx.

The Howard Paul Trio

Jazz group led by the ace 7-string guitarist Paul, who is well-known in the Southeast and often accompanies such legends as Bucky Pizzarelli and Jimmy Bruno. Fri., 9 pm, Jazz’d Tapas Bar.

Paul Reeves

Young singer/guitarist who plays popular hits and uses loops and effects to add variety to his solo shows. Sat., B & D Burgers (Southside).

The Round Table

Young, promising local indie-rock band (formerly known as Borderline) combining chiming, atmospheric guitars with off-kilter rhythms. ALL AGES. Tues., 8 pm, Teaser’s Café.

Roxie Heart

Local straight-up old-school West Coast-style hardcore band (think early Social Distortion) that is celebrating the release of their debut CD. I’d tell you more about it, but they didn’t send me one. Sat., The Jinx.

The Original Voodoo Soup
