New Westside mural unveiled

A new mural was unveiled on Feb. 16 as part of Savannah’s Urban Tree Nursery Project and took inspiration from quilts made by former West Savannah resident Emma Freeman Williams. After Williams’ death, her property was acquired by the city and used for Savannah Fire Department training exercises. During one of these exercises, the quilts were discovered in the home’s attic and eventually used as inspiration for the mural. The city of Savannah has restored the quilts and returned them to Williams’ family.
