MANY noteworthy food events are happening this week as we settle into the new year.
Notable is The Collins Quarter’s recent fundraiser effort to raise money for the devastating fires that are currently ravaging Australia, destroying crucial landscapes and wildlife and engulfing whole towns on fire.
The situation is devastating, and it especially hits home for owner Anthony Debreceny, who moved from Australia to Savannah with his family 6 years ago. Because of these strong emotional ties to his home country, Debreceny intends to extend his help and fund relief efforts of Trustee of the Rural Fire Service of New South Wales. He will donate 100% of the profits made in-house on January 14th at the Collins Quarter to this effort.
How can you help, you ask?
The before mentioned fundraiser at the Collins Quarter is full from an overwhelming response from the public, but a second day of fundraising was added at sister restaurant The Fitzroy.
This fundraiser will be done in the same format, and 100% of the proceeds from this night will be put to the Australian Bush Fighter Foundations. This second effort will take place on Thursday, January 16.

Also this week, the Savannah Riverkeeper is hosting its 10th annual Roast on the River at Hogan’s Marina on Wilmington Island.
Additionally aiming for a greater cause, the proceeds from this event are going to the protection of the river basin through action and education, made possible by the non-profit organization Savannah Riverkeeper itself.
The creekside event will be chock-full of local craft beer, fresh oysters, shrimp, wood-smoked sausage, and chili. For $50, or $80 per couple, you can get entry, dinner, and 4 drink tickets.
As seafood selection in the Lowcountry improves in the cooler winter months, several other events revolve around the popular cuisine.
In February, Pin Point Heritage Museum will host ‘Art & Oysters’, a meet and greet art auction featuring local artists Bellamy Murphy, Sharon McIntosh, Jami Ganem, Curtis Bartone, Laura Till Barton, and more.
All tickets include Lowcountry fare and an oyster roast, and the proceeds go towards educational programs at the site. This event will be held on February 6 from 6 to 9 p.m.
In the spirit of seafood, 39 Rue de Jean will be rebooting their popular promotion, All You Can Eat Mussels Night, active on Tuesdays from 5 to 9 every week.
For $24 a head, you can indulge in endless mussels, in 6 different offered flavor variations. This deal also comes with bottomless pommes frites, a baby green salad, and bread.
Dining in the Dark happens this Saturday, January 18th at the Embassy Suites Savannah.
Those attending this event will enjoy a delectable 3-course meal from Embassy Suites in the darkness, simulating the reality of vision loss, and promoting a deeper understanding of the reality of blindness.
All proceeds for this event go to the Savannah Center for Blind and Low Vision, aiming to help the blind and visually impaired work towards independence.
The following week, Coffee Fox will host its Grand Opening celebration of its newest Louisville Road location.
This new spot makes the 5th location of the highly successful ‘Fox empire’, and is located in West Savannah. The opening bash will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, January 24th and will be catered by Big Bon Pizza.
Accompanying these fun new year changes, Brian Torres’ Fork and Dagger Latin Diner will ring in the new year with a pop-up dinner on Friday, January 31st. He aims to provide the public with a taste of dinner at the restaurant, which he plans to start offering within the year. The cover charge is $45 for four courses, and the event is BYOB, as the restaurant does not have a liquor license yet.
