Ride the streetcar this Saturday

The public is invited to a free test ride of Savannah's fully restored River Street streetcar on Saturday, Dec. 13 from noon to 7 p.m.

The streetcar will pick up and drop off passengers at the base of the Barnard and Lincoln street ramps. Testing of the streetcar and training of its operators is under way, and the free rides are being offered as part of that phase of the streetcar's development.

Regular passenger service will begin in mid-January. The streetcar is ADA accessible and retrofitted with a state-of-the-art, hybrid and bio-diesel propulsion system.

The two-sided streetcar is part of the larger Dot system, Savannah's fare-free downtown transportation system. The Dot system shares stops with the Dot Express Shuttle, which circulates through the Historic District, and the Savannah Belles Ferries, which takes passengers to Hutchinson Island.
