Rock St. Paddy's Day like a local

Your complete downtown live music guide for the festival

Updated March 17, 2018 at 9:27 p.m.

Dark country/Americana outfit Cold Heart Canyon are Atlanta-based, but they're a returning favorite for locals at The Jinx.

HEADING to the "Control Zone"—or, as we prefer to call it, The Party Zone? Local musicians and touring acts are offering live shows from River Street to Broughton and everywhere in between. Whether you want to dance to a DJ, hear world-class jazz, or get down to classic rock, Savannah's got it.

Shout-out to Chris Finney for helping us with this handy guide!

LOCAL FAVORITES

Joe Nelson and James Pittman

Joe Nelson and James Pittman are Savannah’s secret string weapons. The masterful pickers employ fiddle, guitar, mandolin, banjo, and close harmonies to pay tribute to hillbilly music of yore, fiddle tunes, and bluegrass and country. They’re fond of dipping into the Peach State’s musical history.

Voodoo Soup

If you feel like funkin’ it up, get down to the Voodoo Soup show. With bass monster Eric “Big E” Moore at the helm, Voodoo Soup offers an electrifying set of amazing chops, deep grooves, and charisma.

Sarah Poole

You can find Savannah’s Sarah Poole captivating crowds solo and fronting the rock band Ember City. With a captivating voice and ‘90s rock kid heart, Poole’s originals and covers keep spirits high.

Hitman Blues Band

Get a taste of Savannah’s raucous blues underground through a Hitman performance. The Hitman himself offers an entertaining show with fiery guitar chops.

Thomas Claxton and The Myth

Rock fans prowling the festivities should seek out in-demand Savannah guitarist/vocalist Thomas Claxton and his band The Myth. The tight band dishes out original material, driven by Claxton’s incredible vocal range, as well as classics from the likes of Queen, Pink Floyd, and more.

Seldom Sober

Traditional Irish music gets a fun local twist thanks to two-piece band Seldom Sober. Enjoy spirited fiddle and acoustic guitar while sipping on an adult beverage to honor the group’s name.
