Single-Use Sketch Studies: the U.S. Two-Party System

Sulfur Art Services and Green Truck Pub are proud to present Single-Use Sketch Studies: the U.S. Two-Party System by Corey J. Willis, on display in the Drive Thru Art Box. If you're hungry for art in these strange times, the Drive Thru Art Box is a safe way to see some anytime of day or night.

Single-Use Sketch Studies: the U.S. Two-Party System is a commentary on the failure of politicians to serve their constituents and communities. Drawn over photographs of discarded coffee cups, the artist highlights the inherent (financial) waste in political campaigns. Dedicated to Thomas Nast, this series looks at the origins of party mascots in editorial cartooning at the turn of the century. The artist compares this to the disposable political trashings candidates offer up on social media. The display contains dimensional coffee cups etched with tweets from candidates running in Georgia this season.

Corey J. Willis is a New York Foundation for the Arts fellow and former participant at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. He has been on residency with SIM: The Icelandic Association of Visual Artists and traveled to East Greenland for his work with climate change. He is a Professor in Foundation Studies in Savannah, Georgia.

The Drive Thru Art Box was started in 2012 by Matt Hebermehl, James Zdaniewski and Mike Williams as part of the SeeSAW (See Savannah Art Walls) Project, a public arts initiative. Sulfur Studios is proud to continue this unique way of presenting public art to the local community.

Located in the bustling parking lot of Green Truck Pub, the box is ideal for showing prints of 2-dimensional work, site specific installations, and any other artistic medium that can hold up to direct sunlight and a non climate-controlled environment. Pegboard and hooks allows for flexibility of display options, and LED lighting ensures the work is visible for late night crowds.

Single-Use Sketch Studies will be on display in The Drive Thru Art Box through January 3rd, 2021 and can be seen anytime, day or night.
