Sun Araw, Weyes Blood @Hang Fire

Easily the week's most unique single night of music, expect electronic, polyphonic grooves from Sun Araw, the by-now fairly long-lived project of Cameron Stallones. Mixing tasteful dashes of Afropop, reggae, experimental low-fi loop music, and whatever else strikes his fancy, Sun Araw/Stallones forgoes the big bass drop in favor of a more trippy, cerebral vibe.

Weyes Blood is the Natalie Mering’s name for her “ghost folk” project, essentially traditional singing/songwriting set to an experimental soundtrack. Mering, formerly of Jackie-O, Motherfucker, and Axolotl, is gifted with a gorgeously ethereal voice, which she chooses to employ as a lead instrument, by turns inspiring, welcoming, haunting, and foreboding.
