History Theatre is presenting a new play about a Savannah trailblazer: The first Black nurse in American history, the first teacher of freed African-American children and the author of the only Civil War memoir written by a Black woman. The play spans Susie King Taylor's life from her childhood in Savannah to her service in the Civil War and the aftermath of Reconstruction. This is a Savannah story that every person who cares about its history needs to witness. This Memorial Day weekend you can learn what that holiday is celebrating.
