The driver in Monday's incident at Fort Stewart has been identified and booked at the Liberty County jail.
Treamon D. Lacy, 39, is charged with theft of government property and destruction of government property. Lacy is accused of crashing an Army Humvee, an armored multi-purpose vehicle, into the front entrance of the division headquarters at 10 a.m. yesterday. Lacy is a retired Army Soldier, a status that allows him to access the installation.
Fort Stewart Police, along with Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division agents, detained Lacy at the 3rd Infantry Division headquarters building immediately following the incident.
Lacy served in the Army from June 2002 to July 2013 as a wheeled vehicle mechanic obtaining the rank of staff sergeant. He deployed to Iraq twice during his Army career.
No one was injured in this isolated incident and there is no additional threat regarding the event.
