The Eastern Wharf is one of the newest districts to develop alongside the Savannah River and for the first time ever, the Park at Eastern Wharf, along with The Thompson Savannah, is hosting a free, Fourth of July celebration featuring a 90-minute riverfront performance by the Fabulous Equinox Orchestra.
The park, which features a two-acre green space that spans the western edge of the Savannah riverfront, is expected to be one of the ideal locations to view the fireworks show.
“It is going to offer great views of the fireworks, with lots of open lawn space for chairs, blankets and people to spread out,” explained Executive Director of Park Programming for the Eastern Wharf, Kayne Lanahan.
The orchestra will strike up at 7 p.m. and will play a medley of great, American, patriotic songs all the way through the fireworks show beginning at 9:15 p.m. Expect to hear songs by Ray Charles, Neal Diamond, Count Basie, as well as beach and shag classics.
In addition to offering Savannah residents and visitors another great option for a Fourth of July celebration, the event, presented by Tate Law Group, will also pay tribute to and raise awareness for the 200 Club of the Coastal Empire with a portion of all alcohol sales from the Thompson hotel bars benefitting the organization.
This free event, which was made possible by the contributions of the Tate Law Group, The Georgia Music Foundation, Service Brewing, Savannah’s Waterfront, Capital A Productions and Choate Construction (who helped build all of Eastern Wharf), will also serve as the official launch party of the Thompson’s new custom beer, East River Lager, which is an exclusive collaboration with Savannah’s own Service Brewing.
“We are really relying on our sponsor partners to help put this event on so that we can keep it free for the community,” said Lanahan.
While you sip on some East River Lager, or your drink of choice from any of the Thompson’s indoor and outdoor bars, guests will also have the option to purchase food from four, popular Savannah food trucks, including The Naked Dog (voted Connect Savannah’s Best Food Truck this year), BowTie BBQ, Chazitos and Mahalo Shaved Ice. Small, personal coolers are permitted, but be sure to refer to the park’s rule page at TheParkatEasternWharf.com for more information.
If you’re a first-time visitor, The Park at Eastern Wharf is located at 101 Port St. in Savannah on the eastern edge of the Historic District, with convenient access from President Street or General Mcintosh Blvd. You can find the park nestled between the Thompson Savannah and Riverworks. Metered street parking is available, as well as parking in the Eastern Wharf City Garage. Special event garage parking rates will be in effect.
