BIO: Dr. Joe Richardson, and his wife Jackie, are originally from Knoxville TN. Growing up, Joe’s family vacationed to coastal North Carolina every August, and all Joe wanted to do was fish. His plans were to grow up to be a charter boat fishing captain, and that way he could make a living while fishing all the time. Joe majored in Biology at the University of Tennessee and graduated with high honors and Phi Beta Kappa. Back then, programs like Oceanography and Marine Sciences were only offered at the graduate level. With offers from a number of universities, Joe chose to do his graduate work at the University of North Carolina, and earned his Ph.D. in Marine Sciences in 1978. Joe immediately came to Savannah to help propose, start, and then develop the Marine Sciences program at Savannah State University, where he remained throughout his professional career
