There were some tense moments during the Savannah Rock ‘n' Roll Marathon when a 4-year-old boy and his grandfather were reported missing in the Forsyth Park area. The 68-year-old man and his two-foot tall grandson were last seen at Liberty and Whitaker by family members, who reported that they were supposed to meet the pair soon. They both were found safe at the finish line.
• A Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Officer finished in the top five in the Rock -N-Roll Marathon.
Robert Santoro, 27, of the West Chatham Precinct came in fifth, running the race in 2 hours, 40 minutes and 4 seconds.
Santoro is well-known in the local running community as two-time winner of the Savannah Bridge Run; he defends his title next month.
• Police are seeking the public's help in identifying a man who robbed the Parker's convenience Store in the 5300 block of Skidaway Road. The suspect is described as a black male in his early 20s, about 5-6, and weighing about 155 pounds. He was wearing a brown hoodie, black shirt, black jeans and tennis shoes and black cap. The man walked into the store just before 11 p.m., pushed a customer aside and pointed a gun at the clerk. He threatened the clerk and forced her to empty both cash registers before running away with the cash.
• Just before 6 p.m. on a Saturday in the 200 block of Salisbury Road, four young girls ranging in ages from 7-12 years-old were playing outside when a gold SUV drove by slowly.
A man in his 50s or 60s called out to the girls and tried to talk them into getting into the vehicle with him. The girls were too smart and took off running for the nearest neighbors house and alerted police. The vehicle is descibed as a gold SUV, possibly a Ford Explorer. The driver was only described as an older white male with grey hair.
• Five occupants of an SUV that overturned several times on Veterans Parkway were amazingly free of life-threatening injuries.
Four occupants were ejected from the 2004 Ford Expedition in a rush-hour collision on Veterans Parkway. The fifth was extricated by Southside Fire and Rescue.
Four were transported by ambulance and one by helicopter to Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Injured were Nequell Singleton, 18, of a Sidney Court address; Quantetra Gray, 21, of a New Castle Street address; Raheem Sadd, 21, of a West Gwinnett Street address; and Andrea Lovett, 30, and Anhwah Grady, 8, of an East Lathrop Street address.
The driver was headed south on the parkway when the SUV struck the guardrail, rolling over into the northbound lanes.
The northbound lanes and one of the southbound lanes were closed to traffic for another four hours.
