Police this afternoon report that “Violent Crimes Detectives of Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department arrested Laquan Givens, 16, on May 10, charging him with murder and probation violation in the May 7 shooting death of Kathy Henry, 43. Givens was arrested during a warrant service at his residence on the 1300 block of East 54th Street,” which is in the immediate vicinity of the shooting itself.

Well, the shooting last week was two houses away; and this one was a good three blocks. It’s a trend! Maybe the next one will be far enough away I don’t automatically tac-roll out of the bed for the scattergun. Still, thinking about it a 16-year-old probationer doing a 43-year old mom on her own block is kind of a counter-trend; so I may just save time and bruises and put the mattress in the floor, cozy up the scattergun.
I’m sorry we never met, Kathy Henry. I’m sorry that your path was rocky, and I’m sorry your girl’s hood became a place of death. I’m sorry that we, all of us, helped spawn the soulless little hyena who killed you.
