Oglethorpe Bridge?
Editor,
Maybe I missed it along the way, but why hasn’t somebody proposed that our big bridge be renamed The General Oglethorpe Bridge?
1. He was the first important person to plop down in Savannah.
2. There would be no Savannah without him.
3. Coincidently the bridge leads gracefully (if you don’t speed) right down onto Oglethorpe Avenue.
4. He was probably not a racist.

I like Oglethorpe , but how about Tomochichi, Savannah may have happened without him, but maybe not as easily.
1. Oglethorpe was not native to this continent, as Tomochichi was native
2. Oglethorpe owned slaves
3. Oglethorpe returned to the colonial power when the people living in Savannah wanted more independence
So Oglethorpe is not good candidate — better can be found
Oglethorpe already has enough named after him in Savannah.
Actually, Olgethorpe was very anti slavery. You can thank the a**hole who started up the Bethesda orphanage for championing the use of slavery in Georgia.
Olgethorpe or Tomochichi gets my vote for the new name for the bridge.
It’s disgusting that all of the ones who are offended re our HISTORY are either yankees who moved down here and refused to assimilate,,
or racist blacks who SEARCH for something to use as an excuse. (VERY few btw)
Maybe y’all need to go BACK up north and change your own stuff before you come down here and trash our history and customs.
And btw,, when are y’all going to erase all of the history of the Union #1 General and eventual president US Grant,,,
who KEPT his slaves long AFTER the War of Northern Aggression was over ? ?
