Deep Center, in partnership with Chatham Area Transit (CAT), will host a Youth Transportation Forum on Friday, January 13, 2023, beginning at 4:00 PM. The forum will address transportation challenges in the county and offer youth advocates a means to advocate for solutions that will create lasting changes regarding transportation needs in Chatham County. The forum will focus on three key issues: 1.) Limited to no access to transportation in the following areas- Port Wentworth, Garden City, and Pooler; 2.) Safety concerns regarding riding public transportation; and 3.) Chatham Area Transit buses ensure young people get to and from school and extracurricular activities in areas where school buses are prescribed.
"This collaboration between Deep and Chatham Area Transit allows young people to voice their opinion about public transportation as it relates to reliability and accessibility” said Youth Community Organizer, Martina Yvette. “We are thankful for the listening ears at Chatham Area Transit for allowing our young people the opportunity to participate in this endeavor."
”Partnering with organizations like Deep Center is what moves public transportation forward in Chatham County and surrounding communities” says CAT’s Executive Director and CEO Faye DiMassimo. “CAT is glad for the opportunity to discuss reliable, safe, and sustainable ideas with youth advocates who are making a difference for generations to come.”
The Youth Transportation Forum will take place on Friday, January 13, 2023 starting at 4:00PM at Chatham Area Transit, 900 East Gwinnett Street.
