If longevity is a sign of success, stand-up ventriloquist Dunham can check that box. His first TV appearance was in 1976, he quit college to pursue his dream, and Carson invited him to the couch after an appearance on The Tonight Show in 1990. Needless to say, he and his puppets have been a touring comedian and television mainstay ever since.
